Research

Dr. Himangshu Sarma is an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Natural Language Processing. He serves as an Assistant Professor and leads the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City. His Ph.D. from the University of Bremen focused on Virtual Movement from Natural Language Text, showcasing his expertise in blending computational linguistics with immersive technologies.

Dr. Sarma has spearheaded numerous high-impact projects funded by prestigious organizations such as SERB, DST, DRDO, and IIT Tirupati. His work includes the development of VR-based educational platforms, AR solutions for cultural and religious experiences, VR exergames, and automated systems for Indian Sign Language recognition. He is currently advancing projects that enhance user experiences through AR, including the Tirumala Darshan platform, and is developing innovative communication tools for individuals with speech and hearing impairments.

As the lead of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab, Dr. Sarma fosters cutting-edge research in immersive technologies and interaction design. His extensive publications in leading journals and conferences reflect his commitment to transforming education, healthcare, and accessibility through VR and AR. Dr. Sarma’s work continues to push the boundaries of interactive and inclusive technology for diverse real-world applications.
